What Now? Training for a Purpose

Back in 2008, I started this blog to document my journey to my first marathon. After reaching that goal, I rested on my Laurels a bit, lost my drive, and basically began became lost in the reeds of life. My team members had moved on to there own goals. my family was growing up, moving out, and starting lives of their own. Even my youngest was no longer a baby and was moving on into his won niche. What does that sound like? Midlife? That would be my guess. I struggled for meaning, purpose, happiness …. something to keep me moving on. So now I have all the answers, or not. Like Solomon, I have chased after a great deal of wind and yes, all is vanity. All I can say to this point is, as my old Pastor Jim always said “Love God, Love People” it is that simple. So I am just going to stick with that for a purpose.  So if I run, if I train, it has to be in an effort to learn about loving God or loving people.

So I am starting over by running with footman…

5  “If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you,
how will you compete with horses?
And if in a safe land you are so trusting,
what will you do in the thicket of the Jordan? (Jeremiah 12:5)

I am not ready to run with the horses, but maybe, if I am diligent and patient I can run without growing weary.

“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint ” (Isaiah 40:31 ESV)
But even more than running and training, I need to learn to not grow weary in serving others; in meeting needs,in changing my world where I can, and being a light in every area of my life.
As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. (Thessalonians 3:13 ESV)

  1. Inspiring. Thanks.
